Creative Writing (10-day program)
Dates: June 15 – June 26, 2026
Price: $270/week
This program is taught by Sanford Upper School teacher, Mike Symons. Whether you’re interested in journaling, novel writing, or curious to explore the power of the written word, this course will give you a chance to explore your unique voice on the page! Students will engage in all aspects of the writing process, from creative spark to publication submission! In this seminar-style writing workshop, students will keep a notebook where they respond to creative prompts and free-writes, eventually developing their favorites into complete poems and stories. They will both share their work and receive feedback as a writer and read the work of their peers and offer feedback as an editor. After only two weeks, students leave the course with a creative writing portfolio ready to be submitted for writing contests and publication! *Sanford Students are required to attend all classes if they wish to receive school credit.

Digital Photography (10-day program)
Dates: August 3 – August 14, 2026
Price: $270/week
This program is taught by Upper School Teacher, Claire Conway. In this introductory digital photography course, students will explore the fundamentals of photography and develop confidence behind the camera. Through hands-on practice, students will learn essential compositional techniques, how to shoot manually on a DSLR camera, and how to capture compelling images in a variety of settings. If students have their own camera, they are encouraged to bring it; however, school cameras will be available for use. In addition to shooting skills, students will be introduced to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to edit, enhance, and creatively manipulate their photographs. By the end of this course, students will have a strong foundation in digital photography and be prepared to confidently photograph events and continue building their creative skills.

Engineering (10-day program)
Dates: June 15 – June 26, 2026

This program is taught by Sanford Upper School teacher, Mickey Maley. Our Engineering course introduces and engages students in the engineering design process and different fields of engineering. Students will gain a conceptual understanding of the design process through design challenges. Students will manufacture parts, collaboratively engineer solutions, and tackle real-world problems to meet the criteria and constraints posed for each design challenge. The program will conclude with student participating in a design sprint to engineer a solution to a real-world problem and build a prototype that demonstrates their solution.

Graphic Design (10-day program)

This program is taught by Claire Conway, Sanford Upper School teacher. In this introductory Graphic Design course, students will gain foundational skills in visual communication and digital creativity. Through hands-on projects, students will learn to use Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as explore creative digital marketing and layout techniques using Canva. Emphasis will be placed on understanding design principles, creating original digital artwork, and developing practical skills for visual media. By the end of the course, students will feel confident using professional design tools and will have built a portfolio of creative work that demonstrates their growing skills in graphic design and digital content creation.

Health Session I (10-day program)

This summer health course, taught by Sanford Upper School teacher Alaina Schumann, focuses on wellness and the concept of health as a continuum. Throughout the program, students will explore various topics, including the history of diseases, communicable and chronic illnesses, mental health, and other current health issues. Sanford students are required to attend all classes to receive school credit.
Please note: Students who attend Health Session I do not need attend Health Session II.

I Am Independent
Dates: July 20-24, 2026
Price: $250/week
This program is taught by Sanford Lower School teacher, Christina Harnos. Responsibility leads to independence which leads to confidence! For children to become independent in common home and school tasks, they need to be given opportunities to practice. This enrichment program will expose 4 and 5-year-olds to jobs that can be done at home to build personal confidence for when they come into the classroom. Students will learn through stories, crafts, and various hands-on activities that will build a home and school connection. Along with activities that will build their independence physically, they will also work through social stories and group games to practice regulating specific emotions on their own.

Intro to Acting and Theater (10-day program)

Students will develop essential skills in acting improvisation, visualization, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Additionally, they will acquire a robust vocabulary of theater terms. No previous acting experience is necessary, as this class is open to all students. Individualizing the learning experience is of utmost priority to ensure your child is getting exactly what he or she needs to soar. When students are not working with the teacher in their small group, they rotate among a variety of learning stations that reinforce the daily lessons, promote independence, and encourage problem-solving.This program runs from 9am – 12pm.

Worried about the “Summer Slide?” Research shows that keeping up with skills over the summer will enable your child to obtain a greater sense of confidence and excitement for the upcoming second-grade school year. Taught by Sanford Lower School Teacher, Courtney Lewandowski, students will practice reading and phonics skills, writing conventions, and math fact fluency will be a part of our daily routine. Students will also have time to explore, create, and play both inside and outside!

This program is taught by Sanford Middle School teacher, Caitlin Powderly. Novels, research, and fractions, oh my! When transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn it is important to solidify the skills of annotation and taking book notes to ensure understanding. Miss Powderly is excited to introduce this technique to those bridging from elementary-style books to more sophisticated chapter books. Students will also be taught writing techniques that they will implement to construct a piece they are proud to call their own! Hands-on math lessons will be taught with an emphasis on fractions, decimals, and long division. In this class, learning will come to life! This program runs from 9am – 12pm.
